From time to time the bonsai forms the root system of such volume that it begins to force out the soil from pot. Roots dry up, cease to receive nutrients, and the plant can die. Change of tree in new capacity is in that case necessary.

1. Cutting and change bonsai belong to necessary procedures of care for miniature, the plants allowing to keep beautiful decorative view and health of its root system. The plant needs obligatory change in two cases: if signs of damage and rotting of its roots have been found and if the root system bonsai has expanded so that has filled all capacity where the plant is planted, and has begun to force out from it the soil.
2. Frequency of change bonsai depends on age of plant: young trees, age up to 3-4 years, usually replace once a year. Adult trees, age in several decades at which the root system and krone are created for a long time can change time in 10-15 years. It is not necessary to confuse change and transfer of plant: at change the undercutting of roots is surely made. It allows tree to develop the big mass of small backs and stimulates its growth. At transfer the bonsai is placed together with earth lump in container of bigger capacity, with addition of necessary number of the soil instead of that that has been forced out by the grown roots.
3. The best time for change bonsai – spring when the vegetation period begins. Characteristic sign of the beginning of this period is either the pozeleneniye, or noticeable increase in buds of plant. If signs of rotting of roots, the accruing yellowing and the leaf fall which is not connected with the leaf fall period have been found, then it is necessary to replace bonsai immediately, without waiting for the beginning of sokodvizheniye. The new container for plant has to have drainage holes in enough and correspond to the tree size. In order that the soil did not get enough sleep from container, drainage holes are recommended to be covered with network with cells of 2-3 mm in size – the normal mosquito net quite will approach. On bottom of capacity the drainage layer and soil soil is filled.
4. The plant which is accurately taken from old pot needs to be cleaned carefully from the stuck soil and to cut off the damaged and strongly expanded parts of roots. In container pour the fresh soil, and strengthen plant in the same situation in which it grew earlier. After that the container is filled with the soil completely to covering layer of the earth of all root system bonsai. After change the plant needs regular watering. It is necessary to pay special attention to composition of substrate since health and beauty of tree will depend on it. Substrate has to have good moisture capacity, provide aeration and friability of the soil. The most optimum composition of substrate 1 part of clay, 3 parts of sand and 3 parts of peat or the same components in proportion 1:1 is considered. Before change of plant the substrate pretreatment by steam for the purpose of its sterilization is recommended.
