The potato moth (she is called still ftorimey) is gluttonous wrecker from whom not only potatoes, but also tobacco, tomatoes, pepper, eggplants and other nightshade family suffer. Though potato moth – thermophilic insect, it is possible to meet her even in winter time in vegetable storehouse.
Chemical fight against potato moth
This method of pest control is based on use of the same insecticides, as at fight against Colorado beetle. Medicines are applied: Zolon, "Sherpa", Arrivo, Tsimbush, etc. Processing is carried out at once after detection of butterflies of potato moth, that is do not wait for emergence of caterpillars.
If potatoes of summer landing, the maximum number of ftorimea are observed at the end of summer therefore during this period it is necessary to pay special attention to fight against this gluttonous wrecker. At the end of August – the beginning of September recommend to carry out 1-2 sprayings, the interval between which has to be 10-15 days.
The maximum activity of potato moth is observed from 20:00 till 11:00 o'clock in the summer.
In 10 days prior to outplanting of harvest recommend to process plants biological medicines. For example, it is possible to use Lepoditsid and Bitoksibatsillin (the consumption of medicines makes 3-3.5 l on 1 hectare). At the same time the interval between processings has to make 7-8 days.
Safe methods of fight against ftorimey
Seed potatoes before landing should be touched carefully and within 2-3 weeks to warm up at temperature 14-16os. Landing of healthy tubers of potatoes is made on depth not less than 15 cm. It is in addition more reasonable to grow up early grades of potatoes as they are less subject to the attacks of potato moth. Recommend to water culture with overhead irrigation. This way of watering provides partial death of the appeared caterpillars and also prevents stripping of tubers of potatoes. At the same time, it is regularly necessary to carry out earthing up (tubers have to be under earth layer not less than 5 cm). Reap crop before the tops of vegetable begins to dry. For this purpose one week prior to expected outplanting of potatoes mow tops of vegetable and destroy it. It is impossible to leave the reaped crop at all in the field (potatoes need to be removed on the same day) because ftorimeya can find tubers on smell. In day of harvesting potatoes are recommended to submerge in 1% solution "Lepoditsid" and "Bitoksibatsillin" for 3-5 minutes then tubers dry and placed in vegetable storehouse. And the room for storage of harvest has to be prepared: it needs to be cleaned and whitewashed slaked lime.
Ideal storage temperature of potatoes in vegetable storehouse is + 5 wasps.
In the fall the field on which grew up potatoes is plowed (depth of plowing of the infected site has to be 30-35 cm).
