Plastic windows differ high zvuko- and heat-insulating properties. However over time these qualities can worsen. If from windows blows, it is possible to warm frames independently, without resorting to the help of experts.
In what reason of drafts
In cold season the defects of plastic window design become especially noticeable. Among basic reasons of insufficient thermal insulation:
- incorrectly established slopes and windowsills;
- unsuccessfully picked up accessories;
- weak rubber sealants;
- the low-quality window fillet holding double-glazed window.
To understand why from window blows, it is necessary to carry out the small test. For a start it is enough to bring hand to frame and to define in what place there passes cold street air. If there is no notable draft, the lighter will help. The deviated flame precisely will specify the problem site.
It is possible to check reliability of sealant by means of the sheet of paper. If the leaf pressed by frame freely is extended after full closing of shutter, sealant obviously does not perform the functions. Such window is quite suitable for warm weather, but in the winter it will allow cold air into the room.
Quite often the cheap materials which are quickly becoming useless misplacement, distortion of window openings at shrinkage of the house become the reason of drafts. In these cases it is necessary to resort to dismantling and replacement of double-glazed windows. But the problem of laying and slots can be solved also in more economic way, having resorted to independent warming.
That it is possible to make with own hands
Having defined problem, it is possible to try to correct it. Involvement of professionals is necessary if:
- it is necessary to adjust external part of window on the high floor;
- repairs are made in cold season;
- the double-glazed window is initially incorrectly established or defects were shown during warranty period.
It is quite possible to correct some problems independently. Warming of contour of frame or windowsill, replacement of sealants, internal warming of the window block belongs to them.
The easiest way of warming is to stick slots with construction adhesive tape. It is impossible to use office adhesive tape – it leaves ugly marks of which it is very difficult to get rid on frame. If slots deep, stop up them previously with cotton wool, strips of sintepon or foam rubber. Deep slots under windowsill can be filled with mineral wool, but such way will not be suitable for frames.
More difficult option – warming of inner slopes. They need to be isolated so that the window looked esthetically, and the result of works has remained as long as possible. Multi-stage process allows to put in order even very old frames with noticeable slots. Warming in several layers will prevent any leak of warm air and will allow to do without expensive replacement of the window block.
At first the window block is cleaned from pollution, delete residues of old heater. Then primer and seal of slots polyurethane foam follows. After its drying the surplus is removed. Thermal insulation materials, for example, polyfoam are atop mounted. The warming layer is closed by gypsum cardboard which it is necessary to coat suitable shade.
Very often drafts arise because of the worn-out sealant. It is simple to replace it. At first the old cord is extended from groove, and then densely stack new. Experts advise to choose light sealant, it looks much more esthetically and serves longer.
