When to remove timbering from the base

When to remove timbering from the base

It is necessary to remove timbering from the base after certain term during which concrete will stiffen and will reach the necessary durability. This term depends on environmental conditions, on the sizes of concrete slabs and other factors.

The timbering is wood, metal or other structure which is fixed in certain situation that it was possible to fill in concrete or reinforced concrete for creation of the base. After the base is ready, the timbering is removed, but concrete has to stiffen and reach completely the necessary degree of durability therefore it is very important to remove design after certain time which depends on thickness of concrete slab, external conditions and loads of concrete.

When to remove timbering

Concrete needs at least twenty eight days to gain all necessary properties which are necessary for the base for keeping of loading of the building. Some builders mistakenly believe, what does it mean, that the timbering needs to be removed from the base only after this time that considerably prolongs construction terms. Actually the timbering not necessarily has to stand all this time on the base, it can be removed earlier, and concrete will continue to gain the properties as construction continues.

The first sign that the timbering can be removed – sheets have begun to lag behind laying, it means that concrete began to give water, and it is time to delete design. As a rule, it occurs approximately in week after filling of the base. Time of hardening of concrete in timbering also depends on temperature and other environmental conditions. So, at temperature in +15os and low humidity in six days it is possible to remove timbering, than the humidity is higher and temperature is lower – the big terms are established.

The minimum term of removal of timbering is defined by the designer who considers all conditions of concreting.

How to remove timbering

To remove timbering quite difficult, this process demands accuracy as it is very important not to damage the concrete plane. At first the designs surrounding supporting pillars are removed then elements from top to down are removed. The first it is necessary to dismantle tension bolts, then angle units – in corners and at the edges concrete stiffens quicker. Then it is necessary to remove the grabbing edges and to disconnect boards.

At removal of timbering it is desirable to keep it in good condition then to use on other objects.

Process of removal of timbering takes from several days to one week. It is important not to break it lifting gears not to damage concrete, to work carefully, without use of striking power. The correct dismantling affects not only exterior, but also quality of the base.
