For measurement of parameters of various elements of technical constructions or the laboratory equipment special devices and tools are provided. If it is required to measure, for example, diameter of the pipe which is logging in water - or gas supply, then the choice of a concrete way of measurements is defined by availability of an object and its sizes.

- - measuring ruler or roulette;
- - caliper;
- - camera.
Instruction
1. If it is required to determine diameter of a pipe which section to well direct observation and measurement, and requirements to the accuracy of measurement are minimum, use a metal measuring roulette or a ruler. Apply the measuring tool to a pipe face at the level of her a wide part and count the number of the divisions corresponding to diameter. Such way allows to establish the product size with an accuracy of several millimeters.
2. To measure the outer diameter of a pipe, small by the size, apply a caliper. Apply the moved apart device legs to a face part of a pipe and shift them so that they densely nestled on walls. On a scale of values determine required diameter to within the tenth shares of millimeter.
3. If a face part of a pipe is inaccessible for measurements, for example, when the pipe enters the operating system being under operating conditions, apply a caliper for measurement to a side surface of a product. In such a way it is possible to measure diameter of a pipe if length of legs of the device exceeds a half of diameter.
4. For calculation of diameter of big pipes use the formula known from a geometry course: D = L / P; gded – diameter; L – circle length; P – number "пи", equal about 3.14. For a start by means of a cord or a roulette make measurement of a pipe on its grasp to learn circle length. Divide the received value into 3.14; as a result you receive diameter of a pipe.
5. If it is impossible to carry out direct measurement of a pipe for some reason, use a copying method. For this purpose apply the measuring tool (ruler) or a subject which linear sizes are in advance known (matchbox) to a pipe. Then photograph a section of the pipe together with the measuring tool. You carry out further measurements and calculations according to the photo. For this purpose it is necessary to measure in the picture the visible thickness of a pipe in millimeters and to transfer the obtained data to the actual size of a pipe, considering shooting scale.
