Phenol formaldehyde pitch, formula C6H3 (OH)-CH2-] n is a synthetic weight which has properties of thermoreactive plastic.

In the course of reaction, phenol formaldehyde pitch appeared. Once you heated weight, it instantly hardened, was not dissolved in water and did not give in to melting. In the world industry produces pitch of steel since 1912, later pitch received the name bakelite.
Synthetic pitch has properties of reaktoplast or termoreaktoplast (synthetic plastic). Plastic does not melt at high temperature. Bakelite is dissolved in hydrocarbon, alkali, chloride solvent.
