How to check mezhvitkovy short circuit

Mezhvitkovy short circuit arises, as a rule, in the excitement winding coil because of damage of an insulating layer, reduction of resistance of a chain and agglomeration of a large number of rounds of the coil is result of process. 1. For testing of mezhvitkovy short circuit use an ohmmeter. Attach the device and take readings. Verify results with the set resistance size. Remember that at decrease in resistance of a winding the current bigger admissible size begins to pass through contacts of the regulator (often between contacts slip sparks). Pay attention if generator power sharply fell, the battery ceased to show recharge level, then, most likely, there was a break in a chain of a phase winding of the stator. If both phases broke, then the generator will not work at all.

2. If you already disassembled the generator, then it is possible to check mezhvitkovy short circuit serially connecting to the phase battery, closed on a bulb. The lamp will not burn if in a chain there is a break.

3. Use the defectoscope PDO-1, this device has induction and reception and alarm devices. When checking a winding install the defectoscope so that the groove between teeth of the core of the stator was located between air gaps of cores and reception and alarm and induction devices. Connect a winding of the induction device to a source of direct or alternating current of 12 V. In case of malfunction of a chain, the neon lamp of PDO-1 will steadily burn. Remember that the defectoscope can work continuously no more, than within three minutes.

4. Use an electromagnet and a steel plate. The method is simple and old, but did not lose the efficiency. Place a steel plate on the coil, but fix it if there are closed rounds, the plate will be attracted to those grooves where the damaged section lies.
