For most of the beginning chemists cultivation of crystals, including copper, – fascinating and, perhaps, the most available occupation and also the safest that is very important for carrying out experience in house conditions. Thorough and consecutive performance of an experiment perfects skills in ability to correctly organize the plan of the work and to handle accurately substances.
It is required to you
- - copper vitriol;
- - table salt;
- - solution from table salt;
- - ware for carrying out experience;
- - the filtered paper;
- - sheet of thin iron;
- - emery cloth.
Instruction
1. The iron nail placed in solution of copper vitriol becomes covered by very small crystals of copper, for example. These kristallik are so small that the reddish film on a surface of a subject seems equal, continuous. To grow up large crystals, slow down reaction – molecules of the emitted substance, being besieged on already ready small crystals, they will be increased.
2. Take ware for carrying out experience: to bank or chemical glass. Cut out a circle from the filtered paper or a blotter, on diameter equal to a vessel circle.
3. Prepare an iron circle which on diameter has to be slightly less paper circle, smooth out small emery cloth.
4. On a bottom of a container put kristallik of copper vitriol, fill up them with small table salt and cover with the cut-out circle. Salt is necessary to slow down release of copper.
5. On the cut-out paper circle put an iron circle. Fill in all with saturated solution of table salt so that it covered an iron circle on several centimeters.
6. Leave everything for several days, and you will see the formed brilliant kristallik of copper.
7. The turned-out crystals will be a different form and the size. Everything depends on the sizes of crystals of copper vitriol, their amount, height of a layer of salt, diameter of a vessel.
8. For preservation of the received crystals wash them with water, fill in with the diluted sulfuric acid and put in the closed ware without air access.
