Coils of inductance are elements in which marking the parameters are usually not specified. Besides, often coils reel up independently. In both cases it is possible to define inductance of the coil only by its measurement. It can be carried out by various methods assuming use of the equipment, various on complexity. Some of these methods are laborious and demand calculations. But direct-reading LC meters are free from these shortcomings allow to measure inductance quickly and without additional calculations.

1. Get LC meter. In most cases, they are similar to usual multimeters. There are also multimeters with function of measurement of inductance - such device will suit you too. Any of these devices can be acquired in the specialized shops trading in electronic components.

2. Cut off power a payment on which there is a coil. If necessary, discharge condensers on a payment. Vypayayte the coil which inductance is required to be measured, from a payment (if not to make it, the noticeable error will be brought in measurement), and then connect to entrance nests of the device (to what, it is specified in its instruction). Switch the device to the most exact limit which is usually designated as ""2 mH"". If the inductance of the coil is less than two millihenries, then it will be defined and shown on the indicator then measurement can be considered finished. If it is more than this size, the device will show an overload - in the senior category there will be unit, and in the others - gaps.

3. In case the measuring instrument showed an overload, switch the device to the following, more rough limit - ""20 mH"". Pay attention that the decimal point on the indicator moved - scale changed. If measurement also this time was not crowned with success, continue to switch limits of more rough aside until the overload does not disappear. After that read result. Having looked then at the switch, you learn in what units this result is expressed: in henry or in a millihenry.

4. Disconnect the coil from entrance nests of the device then seal back in a payment.

5. If the device shows zero even on the most exact limit, then the coil or has very small inductance, or contains short-circuited rounds. If even on the most rough limit the overload, the coil is displayed either it is torn off, or has too big inductance on which measurement the device is not calculated.
