How to receive hydrogen sulfide

How to receive hydrogen sulfide

Hydrogen sulfide is the combustible gas which does not have color, but possessing an unpleasant smell (rotten eggs). This gas is badly dissolved in water, also it is quite poisonous. Hydrogen sulfide is formed in the course of rotting of albumens, but it can be received also in other ways.

It is required to you

  • Sulfur, paraffin, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, iron sulfide, aluminum sulfide, zinc, potassium iodide, cadmium sulfide.

Instruction

1. Take a little sulfur and mix it with a small amount of paraffin. Then place this mix in a test tube and by means of a spirit torch heat it. When heating this mix there will be a reaction to release of hydrogen sulfide.

2. Take any acidproof capacity and place in it a small amount of sulfide of iron. After that add the diluted hydrochloric acid there. There will be a reaction at which chloride of iron and hydrogen sulfide will be formed.

3. In any vessel pour the distilled water. Further place in it a little sulfide of aluminum. Reaction with release of hydrogen sulfide and formation of hydroxide of aluminum will begin. At this reaction very pure hydrogen sulfide is formed.

4. Take a test tube and place in it a little sulfur. Then take the second test tube and pour in it the diluted hydrochloric acid. Pick up to a test tube with hydrochloric acid a cover with an exhaust tube.

5. After that, heat a test tube with sulfur in which temperature range there has to be a sulfur, there have to be from 150 to 200 degrees. Then with hydrochloric acid place a zinc piece in a test tube, release of hydrogen will begin.

6. Close a test tube from which hydrogen is emitted a cover with an exhaust tube, and place other end of a tube in a test tube with the melted sulfur. At this temperature hydrogen and sulfur will interact among themselves with formation of hydrogen sulfide.

7. Pour the concentrated sulfuric acid in glass capacity. After that place in it a little iodide of potassium, reaction at which potassium sulfate, water, iodine which will drop out in a deposit and hydrogen sulfide will be formed will begin.

8. Pour the diluted sulfuric acid in a vessel and heat it. After that, place in it a small amount of sulfide of cadmium. Sulfate of cadmium will be formed at the same time and to be emitted hydrogen sulfide.
