How to solve complex problems of theoretical mechanics

Area of studying theoretical mechanics is mechanical motion of material bodies and laws of interaction between them. Methods of this science found the greatest application in creation of various technical means and mechanisms.

Instruction

1. The solution of any task comes down to performance of the following actions: study and the analysis of basic data, the short record of statements of the problem, considering of a way of the decision and scheduling corresponding to rules of a subject matter record of the decision and its check.

2. To solve a problem of theoretical mechanics, it is necessary to define a set of certain provisions of this area which includes laws, formulas, rules and definitions. This set has to answer as much as possible statements of the problem and, actually, lead to obtaining result.

3. Attentively study entry conditions. The theoretical mechanics – it technical science, therefore, accuracy is of great importance. It is important to study each phrase, to understand what in a statement of the problem is primary and that – minor.

4. Draw the schematical image or the schedule, put the sizes given in a condition and their values, place the enclosed forces. It is desirable to observe the scale of the sizes specified in a condition to make the image more evident. The drawing will be better, the quicker you will find a solution, besides it will save you from need to keep all basic data in memory.

5. The graphic representation in a task acts as behavior model of a material body which will help to reveal the hidden forces of interaction and dependence between sizes. Look at the ready drawing and ask yourself several questions, for example, what object participates in a task (a material point or their system, firm and a body and so forth) and in what conditions whether the body moves that needs to be found and what unit of measure of this size whether it is a constant or changes what initial sizes can be used for search, what formulas, laws, etc.

6. Actually to solve a problem of theoretical mechanics – it means to establish connection between initial data and required size (sizes). This communication can sometimes consist of several links, intermediate values. In this case use of language of counts will be useful. In other words, write in the left side of a sheet of the name of initial sizes, circle them with circles, and in the right side circle names of the resulting sizes. Between them write names of intermediate sizes and connect all circles lines to the shooters specifying in the direction from known to the unknown.

7. After scheduling it is possible to start record of the decision. Write in order of priority, accepted on the previous step, the used formulas and necessary words if the explanation is required. At the resulting size put dimension in brackets.
