How to take air temperature

How to take air temperature

To take the temperature of air, rather ordinary or electronic thermometer. However for obtaining exact results, it is recommended to consider some features of their design. Otherwise it is possible to measure not the air temperature, but temperature of surrounding objects or temperature of the thermometer. And these indicators can differ from the taken temperature considerably.

It is required to you

  • Spirit thermometer
  • Mercury thermometer
  • Thermometer electronic TESTO
  • (something one)

Instruction

1. For measurement of temperature indoors take the spirit thermometer and place on a horizontal surface at the level of 1.6 – 1.7 meters from floor level. The thermometer has to lie on the heat-insulating material. At the time of measurement no heating devices indoors should work, especially it concerns heaters of Ural federal district as they warm the room by means of the infrared radiation heating surrounding objects the directed radiation and therefore are capable to heat significantly the case and to distort indications of the thermometer. Thermal inertia of the spirit thermometer is quite high and therefore wait certain time (about 10 - 12 minutes) before reading of indications of the thermometer.

2. The error of the spirit thermometer can reach 3–4 degrees, for obtaining more exact values of air temperature use mercury household thermometers. Do not confuse with medical thermometers! Same, as well as the spirit thermometer, arrange image the mercury household thermometer on the heat-insulating surface, at the height of 1.6 - 1.7 meters from floor level. Liquid cylinders of thermometers during measurement should not concern any objects.

3. By means of the electronic thermometer the measurement of air temperature is performed almost instantly, especially if to use modern thermometers of the TESTO series. When carrying out measurement do not concern nothing the device sensor.

4. For measurement of air temperature outside the window open a frame of a window and fix on it the thermometer. The cylinder of the thermometer should not concern glass. Carefully close the thermometer from direct sunshine. Also the thermometer cannot be installed from South side of the house as from sunshine the house wall strongly heats up. The wall of the house heated by beams of the sun heats nearby layers of air which in turn will heat the thermometer installed on a window frame.
