How to transfer section to diameter

On design of power supply networks specify sections of wires in normative documents, and it is possible to measure by a caliper only diameter of a vein. These sizes are interconnected and can be transferred one to another.

Instruction

1. To transfer the section of a single-core wire specified in the normative document to its diameter, use the following formula: D=2sqrt(S/π), where D - diameter, mm; S - section of the conductor, mm2 (square millimeters of electrics are called for short "squares").

2. The flexible multicore wire consists of a set of the thin veins twisted among themselves and placed in the general insulating cover. It allows it not to break at frequent movements of loading which is connected with its help to the power supply. To find diameter of one vein of such conductor (it can be measured by a caliper), in the beginning find the section of this vein: s=S/n where s is section is one vein, mm2; S - total section of a wire (it is specified in normative documents); n - number of veins. Then transfer vein section to diameter as it is stated above.

3. On printed circuit boards flat conductors are used. Instead of diameter they have thickness and width. The first size is known from specifications of the foiled material in advance. Knowing it, it is possible to find width on section. For this purpose use such formula: W=S/h where W is width of the conductor, mm; S - section of the conductor, mm2; h - thickness of the conductor, mm.

4. Conductors of square section meet rather seldom. Its section is subject to transfer or to length of the party, or to square diagonal (it is possible to measure by a caliper both). then to recognize diagonal by length of the party, make the following calculations: d=sqrt(2(L^2)) where d is the diagonal of a square, mm; L - length of the party, mm.

5. If the conductor which section precisely corresponds to required does not appear, use another, having bigger, but not smaller section. Choose type of the conductor and a type of its isolation depending on application conditions.
