The world of fauna is divided into a large amount of categories – classes, groups, subspecies, types. Herbivorous animals are distinguished from them. These are the representatives of fauna eating food of exclusively plant origin. As a part of a food chain they are consumers of the first order.

1. The prevalence of natural food enzyme of amylase is the main feature of digestive system of representatives of herbivorous animals. Some of them have enzyme which splits cellulose. This feature allows them to digest various food of plant origin more just. It is possible to carry wing-handed animals to herbivorous animals, neparnopaly, all hemipterous, some parnopaly, whales, a kangaroo, idlers, koalas.
2. Also in the majority hoofed (steppe, desert, forest) animals belong to the class of herbivorous. All of them eat food of plant origin if use other forage, then in absolutely small amounts. From attack at the majority of hoofed animals for protection horns are provided (certain bone formations on the head). It should be noted that only at a rhinoceros the horn is located on a nose.
3. Saliva of animals of this class does not form a ptialin. Generally it is emitted for wetting of food. However food of plant origin rather hard is digested. The special structure of a stomach of herbivorous animals is designed to facilitate this process. So, for example, at ruminant representatives of this class it consists of a maw, the book, a hem and a grid. This building allows to digest the food enriched with fibers without effort.
4. Herbivorous animals have as well certain differences in the structure of teeth. Teeth with a wide interval in jaws and with a flat crown are characteristic of representatives of this class. Cutters at many of them just are absent. Herbivorous animals possess quite powerful chewing muscles which are responsible for mastication of rigid fibers.
5. The most famous representatives of a class of herbivorous – rodents and hoofed animals (bisons, goats, sheep, roes, deer, horses, cows, etc.). It is possible to carry to number of the most widespread rodents beavers, rabbits and other. These animals are united by one – they eat food of plant origin (vegetables, fruit, sprouts of trees, a grass).
6. The largest representative of herbivorous animals is the elephant. Its weight can be several tons. Elephants are capable to eat a large number of leaves of trees and a grass. This animal in one day eats from 150 to 300 kilograms of various vegetable food. Quite often elephants bring damage to agricultural crops, ruining landings of bananas, a sugar cane and rice.
