What connection was established by scientists between use of mobile phones and a dream

About negative impact of different factors when using mobile phones and computers in the press it is reported already for a long time - since the moment of their mass distribution. This summer researchers of devices of this sort added one more to the total number of troubles - negative impact on functions of a dream.

Researches of influence of radiation of mobile devices on a dream were conducted in private New York Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. One of its scientific divisions - Lighting Research Center (LRC) - revealed dependence between long use of some types of mobile devices and violation of the mode of a dream.

According to scientists, two-hour use of mobile phones or tablet computers with fluorescent illumination of the screen significantly influences development in a melatonin organism. It is hormone which amount in a pineal gland and in blood changes at different times day - at night its concentration increases that has to signal an organism about approach of time of a dream. And mobile devices with illumination of the screen radiate energy with a frequency which makes negative impact on the bodies producing melatonin. It misleads biological clock of an organism and slows down the normal beginning of a dream.

The team of researchers under the leadership of Mariana Figueiro, the associate professor of institute of Rensselaer and the director of the LRC center, checked this influence, having made experiments with 13 volunteers. With their help typical scenarios of use of mobile devices were simulated - people used tablet computers for reading, games and watching movies. Results of a research showed that such carrying out time within two hours before going to bed leads to decrease in level of production of melatonin by 22%. Results were published in the American magazine Applied Ergonomics ("Applied ergonomics"). Scientists recommend to producers of mobile computers and phones to reduce the level of illumination of screens of these devices to a minimum, and to their users - to refuse long use of devices at least before going to bed.
