What is ionic communication

Ionic communication is one of types of a chemical bond, arising between raznoimenno the loaded ions of electropositive and electronegative elements. Ions, as we know, are the particles bearing a positive or negative charge which are formed of atoms at return or accession of electrons.

If the electron is given, the positively charged cation is formed if it is attached – negatively charged anion is formed. Return or accession happens at chemical reaction between atoms. During reaction, atom of an electropositive element which has small quantity of electrons at the external electronic level gives them, passing with that into a steady condition of a cation. Well, and the atom of an electronegative element having, on the contrary, a large number of external electrons accepts them, thereby passing into steadier condition of anion. Here and there is an ionic communication.

Certainly, "gives" terms and "accepts" to a certain extent are conditional as full return and reception of electrons does not exist. It is only about the shift of electronic density from electropositive atom to electronegative atom to a greater or lesser extent. Thus, any ionic communication can at the same time be considered and covalent.

Consider ionic communication on the example of well-known table salt – chloride of sodium, NaCl. The sodium atom having one electron on an external layer and the chlorine atom having, respectively, seven external electrons. After formation of communication turn into positively and negatively charged ions having eight electrons on outer sheaths. Thus, these ions are in a steady state. Each ion of this substance is connected by forces of electrostatic interaction with a number of other ions. Force decreases in proportion to increase in a square of distance (on Coulomb's law). Therefore ionic communication has no so-called "spatial focus" and, therefore, substance which atoms are connected by this communication, have no molecular building. They form ionic crystal lattices, have high temperatures of melting and boiling, and their solutions are conductive.
