What is the adverb

What is the adverb

Starting studying the section "Morphology" at Russian lessons, school students learn about existence of such non-inflected part of speech as an adverb. They get acquainted with distinctive signs of this part of speech, its categories and also with writing of these words.

First of all, it is important to understand that the adverb is an independent part of speech. So, these words answer some certain questions and have values of the place (far, somewhere), time (now, early), a way and an image of action it is (good, interesting), etc. Adverbs can be at a verb and explain action. For example, in the offer "School students quickly coped with the teacher's task" an adverb "quickly" explains a verb "coped" and answers the question "how?". Besides, adverbs are used also for an explanation of other adverb. So, in the offer "Studying very well all also expedited planned per day" the adverb "very much" treats adverbs "kindly" and "quickly" and answers the question "how?". Adverbs can answer the questions "how?", "where?", "when?", etc. For example, in the offer "There will be a sunny and frosty day today" the adverb answers the question "when?" "today" and designates action time. Remember that adverbs as well as adverbial participles, and an uncertain form of a verb (infinitive), does not change. You will not be able to define at this word time (as at a verb or a participle), a case (as at a noun, an adjective or a pronoun), persons (as at a verb or a pronoun), etc. They have no termination, even zero. Therefore do not make a mistake, carrying out morphemic analysis of a word. So, in an adverb "to the left" the letter "about" on the end of a word is a suffix. Adverbs can be uncertain. They are formed by means of suffixes "that", "or", "нибудь" or prefixes "which" are written through a hyphen: "somewhere", "ever", "somehow", "somehow". Besides, adverbs indicate the place, time or a way of action. In this case they are index. So, in the offer "Rescuers with necessary equipment went there" the adverb indicates the place taking place actions "there". Adverbs are also negative, and in this case they are formed in the prefixal way, in the way of addition of prefixes "not" or from interrogative adverbs (where - there is no place anywhere). As well as all other independent parts of speech, adverbs have a certain syntactic role in the offer and most often are circumstances. But sometimes they are used as a part of a compound predicate or even as definition. For example, in the offer "Our house opposite" the adverb "opposite" answers the question "what?" and is definition.
