Gore Pivikh"

is in Left-bank Ukraine picturesque, with high steep slopes Mount Pivikha which is considered the highest point of this area (168-169 m above sea level). In the 1960th year Pivikhe was given the status of the historical and geological reserve protected by the law, and in 2008 it participated in the competition "7 natural sights of Ukraine".

Amazing Mount Pivikha is located in the settlement of Gradizhsk of Poltava region near the Kremenchuk reservoir. Time of formation of the mountain Pivikhi - the Dnieper freezing, that is the period of approach of Ice Age. The form of the mountain reminds two identical domes with the flat parties. Still geologists and local fans of the nature find remains of prehistoric plants in the form of fossils in mountain deposits. Preglacial sea hedgehogs, fishes, mollusks and corals were depicted in rock, also bones of large prehistoric animals come across: deer, mammoths.

In the district Pivikhi to a surface there is a rare earth breed which is used in construction, blue marl. But not only geological features glorified the mountain. At Pivikhi the rich history going to centuries. Once there was a settlement of Beer which was in possession of the Russian boyars. Then the Polish king Kazimir IV wrote the grounds adjacent to the mountain, the monastery Kiev Desert Nikolaev.

In this territory the monks in the XVI century put the fortress of the Pivgorodsky Nikolaev monastery. This fortress was constructed in a squared shape on the area of 5 dessiatins. On corners of fortress there were high hills barrows, they served as watchtowers. Inside wooden and stone buildings, monastic cells were built. Long time the monastery served as a strong point in fight against the Polish aggressors. The monastery, unfortunately, did not remain.

And the mountain is threatened by danger of destruction. In the sixties the XX centuries the Kremenchuk reservoir which waters gradually absorb to Pivikh was formed. Every year the mountain loses about seven meters. For segodyashny day, water absorbed more than 600 meters, in passing washing away the destroyed monastery walls. Scientists try to save to Pivikh. Mount Pivikh clay attracts interest too. Consider that this blue and yellow clay has medical qualities. It contains a lot of mineral of silicon therefore it is used in treatment of many diseases. However, the medical effect is not proved by physicians, despite treatment cases. But the local community all the same uses clay from picturesque Mount Pivikh.
