The sight at a monkey takes the important place among six sense organs inherent in it. It helps to be guided with space, to get food and to be protected from danger. But the most surprising is that the sight at different types of monkeys can differ.

1. According to researches of scientists, mammals including monkeys, lost color sight even at the very beginning of the evolution, having lost two of four opsin – a gene of photosensitive protein. That is why now practically all animals have black-and-white sight.
2. However some forms of monkeys over time again were taken trichromatic sight. As well as the person, at them has three types of photosensitive cages which are ready for length of the waves characteristic of green, red and blue colors. Bright representatives of such monkeys are gorillas, orangutans, a chimpanzee and also monkeys howler monkeys living in Central and South America.
3. Monkeys of the New World see differently. Night South American durukul, for example, have monochrome (black-and-white) sight. Males at monkeys spiders and sharp-clawed monkeys – bichromates which do not see shades of green or red color. And here the three-colored and two-color sight meets at females of these types in the ratio 60:40. As monkeys live big groups, existence even alone females with three-colored sight significantly facilitates a problem of survival to all group.
4. It is still for certain unknown what gave an impetus to development of three-colored sight. Some scientists connect it with loss of a considerable part of sense of smell, others – with way of life and food as only the color sight allows monkeys to find young and juicy leaves of certain plants which any given species of monkeys eat.
5. Meanwhile, the monochromatic and dichromatic sight also has the advantages. The first allows monkeys to be guided better in the dark that especially relevant for night durukul, and the second helps to distinguish masking of predators and the victims. The grasshoppers, lizards and frogs imitating by means of light act as the last.
