Lemon container, or as it is called still, a krushinnitsa - a day butterfly from family of white butterflies. It is widespread in the Caucasus, in Europe, North Africa, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, Western and Southern Siberia. This butterfly differs in unusual longevity and very beautiful, bright color.

1. The lemon container can be met in parks, gardens, on water meadows or in lightly forested forests. It is easy to recognize it by a shape of wings, almost unique among the European butterflies, – each wing has an acute angle as though cut off by a sharp object. Corners serve as cover to a lemon container while that is in hibernation or has a rest. By the way, in hibernation this butterfly carries out the most part of the long life which lasts about 13 months. Length of a front wing varies from 26 to 33 mm, and the wingspan reaches 60 mm.
2. Males of a lemon container differ in brighter color that is characteristic of the majority of insects. Their back has a black-gray shade, and the breast and a paunch are covered a large number of white hairs because of what seem fluffy. Wings differ in beautiful lemon color which gave the name to this species of butterflies. In the middle of each wing at a lemon container it is possible to notice a reddish-orange speck.
3. Females of a lemon container have less bright coloring – their wings differ in white color with a greenish outflow. Because of such color scale this butterfly from a distance can be mixed with a cabbage white butterfly. However as well as males, on wings of a female have reddish dots. In a year they give only one posterity.
4. Caterpillars of a lemon container appear in June and differ in chartreuse coloring which has lighter shade on each side and a whitish strip on a paunch. Thanks to such camouflage it is quite heavy to find them in the habitat. The stage of a caterpillar lasts about a month, but its duration depends in many respects on weather conditions. At this time they eat leaves of a buckthorn or buckthorn what there was the second name of a lemon container from. Cocoons of this butterfly also have green color. After an exit from a cocoon of a lemon container eat nectar, and in August already sink into a long sleep which passes in the spring from the beginning of the first warm days.
