How to breed ostriches

Now cultivation of ostriches is one of the most favorable directions of farm. It is connected on the one hand with simplicity of cultivation of these birds, and on the other hand - with demand in the market of ostrich eggs, meat, skin and feathers.

1. It is possible to begin cultivation of ostriches in several ways: having bought eggs, baby birds or adult birds. For beginners the most preferable is the option with purchase of baby birds. It allows to avoid as the risks connected with purchase of not oosperms, and efforts with cultivation of young growth. Also it is possible to carry their lower cost to advantages of purchase of baby birds, in comparison with adult individuals and ease of formation of ostrich herd (a ratio of males and females).

2. At cultivation of ostriches it is necessary to pay attention to such aspects of their contents as: - open-air cages where birds contain; - pasturable shelters for walking; - hygiene on an ostrich farm; - lighting, ventilation, temperature condition of keeping of birds of different age; - quality of a forage and water. Respect for necessary norms and recommendations in these areas promotes more successful reproduction of ostriches.

3. As a rule, 2-3 females are the share of one male. Such combination represents ostrich "family". Keeping of several families in one room is allowed. Ostriches reach puberty in 1.5-2 years: at this age of a female begin to lay eggs. On average one female brings up to 60 eggs a year from which 75-80% are impregnated. On a farm more effective is use of incubators for removal of baby birds – it allows to increase percent of the hatched healthy baby birds.

4. Though at the initial stages of the organization of an ostrich farm considerable investments are required, further this business is profitable and perspective, and well adjusted economy will demand from you no more efforts, than any other poultry farm.
