Training in retelling is a joint work of the adult with the child. Children need to show an operation algorithm over the text, to train in storing methods and also formulation of own thoughts. Instruction
1. Begin with acquaintance with simple, the cogitable text of the child. It is better for preschool children and younger school students to offer the fairy tale or the short literary work. If the child is able to read, ask to make it aloud. Children of advanced age will can do stories or educational texts.
2. Divide the text into parts - according to paragraphs or on sense. Set to the child consistently on one question to each fragment. Try to give the chance to him to formulate answers, but if it is impossible to it, help.
3. Helping the child to answer questions, together with him look for the main words or semantic phrases. Using them, make the plan of the text in writing or allocate them with a pencil in paragraphs. Do not write big offers in the plan, use 2 - 3 words in each point.
4. Ask the child, looking at basic words, to retell the text. Let it will be short and terse retelling, do not demand much. Then together return to the studied work to be verified.
5. Studying the text for the second time, show to the child the striking examples accompanying each point of the plan. Expressive definitions, images, metaphors, say, everything that will help it to remember sense and the sequence of points. 6. Work over the text for the third time for specification of minor details, the best understanding and storing. Then offer the child again, already independently, to retell him. Work together several texts within 3 – 5 days, during this time the child will gain skill of independent work with them.
