If you need to provide several devices in a local area network with Internet access, but you have no desire or an opportunity to buy the router or the router, then configure an Internet gateway on one of the PC. At the same time it is necessary to change network settings at all other computers.
It is required to you
- - network cables;
- - network interface card.
Instruction
1. Define the most powerful computer which is in the set local area network. If more than 10 PCs are its part, then recommend to select the two-nuclear computer with the random access memory capacity exceeding 3 Gbytes. Connect a cable of provider to the selected computer.
2. Configure connection to the Internet. Do not specify any additional parameters. Perform tuning thus as your provider recommends to do it. Make sure that Internet access is active and correct.
3. Now connect the second network interface card to the computer host. It is possible to use one multichannel network adapter also. Connect by means of the additional network interface card this computer to a local area network.
4. Open the list of network connections. Click with the right mouse button an icon of the network adapter connected to network. Open its properties. Now select the internet protocol of TCP/IP and pass to its properties. Select a checkbox near the Use the Following IP Address parameter. Enter the IP value equal 216.216.216.1. This computer will perform functions of the gateway for access of other PCs to the Internet.
5. Pass to properties of recently created connection to the Internet. Select the Access menu. Select a checkbox opposite to the Allow Other Net Surfers to Use Connection to the Internet of This PC point. Save settings of network adapters.
6. Now pass to setup of the secondary computer. Open the list of local area networks. Pass into the menu of settings of the TCP/IP protocol. For each paragraph of this menu set the following values:
216.216.216. X – the IP address;
255.255.255.0 – the Subnet mask;
216.216.216.1 – the Main gateway;
216.216.216.1 – the Preferred and alternative DNS servers.
7. Perform similar tuning of other computers. Naturally, should be X less than 250 and more than 2.
