"How to learn what program uses traffic"

During the work on the Internet the user sometimes comes up against a situation of uncontrollable consumption of traffic. To understand what application is used by the Internet, it is necessary to seize the opportunities of the operating system or special programs.

Instruction

1. If during idle standing the computer actively interacts with network, at the same time there is no update of files of the operating system or anti-virus bases, it is necessary to find the program using traffic.

2. For a start try to find this program by the OS. Open the command line: "Start-up", "All programs", "Standard", "Command line". Enter the netstat — aon command, click Enter. You will see the list of the current connections. In the column "Status" the connections active at the moment will be noted as Established.

3. In the following column – PID - are specified identifiers of processes. Knowing the identifier, you will be able to understand what program uses this connection. In the same window make and execute the tasklist team, you will see the list of the started processes. At once the name of process is followed by number of the identifier. Find in this column number of the identifier interesting you, to the left of it there will be a name of process of the program. If the name of process tells nothing to you, take him in the searcher, and you obtain about it all necessary information.

4. To find out what specifically the program uses traffic, begin to close in turn the suspicious active processes having connection with network. It is possible to stop processes in the Task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) or directly in the command line, having used a command: taskkill/pid 1234, where 1234 – a process identifier which needs to be closed (it will be your another). If after process closing the traffic was reduced, so you found the necessary program. If is not present, close following, etc.

5. You can exercise more complete control of traffic by means of the BWmeter program. Find it in the Internet, download and start, then open the Details tab. Find the Control panel, click Start. In a window of the program information on all IP addresses to which the computer connects will be displayed.

6. For control of network activity use the AnVir Task Manager program. She allows to see all network connections and to find the programs using them. By means of this utility you will be able to find in the register and keys of start of any programs interesting you and, if necessary, to delete them.
