1. For reading books in the DjVu format it is possible to use, for example, the free WinDjView utility - http://windjview.sourceforge.net/ru. There is also an option for work in MacOS. This format is developed especially for storage of the scanned documents which contents badly give in to text recognition - manuscripts, logs, scientific literature with a large number of formulas, etc. Also it is used for the most exact transfer of historical and archive documents in which except the text specific features of design - the invoice of paper are important, the made corrections, prints on ink, etc. Krom of the image DjVu-file are might contain by a text layer and hyperlinks. The format allows to begin reading to full load of the file transferred on network.
2. For reading books in the FB2 (FictionBook) format it is possible to use, for example, the FBReader program - http://www.fbreader.org. This format is based on the XML standards and bears generally only information on the text. The appearance in which this information will be provided entirely depends on settings of the program browser of books of this format.
3. Free Adobe Reader - http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ quite will be suitable for reading books in the PDF format (Portable Document Format). This format developed and which is actively implemented by Adobe first of all is used for representation of printing products in electronic form. It allows to implement fonts, images, forms, multimedia elements, etc. in documents.
4. For reading books in the DOC, RTF, TXT formats it is possible to use, for example, Microsoft Word. These are text formats of different degree of "advancement" - from the plain text without signs of formatting (TXT) to documents with complex structure, graphic, multimedia and interactive inserts (DOC).
5. For reading books in the CHM format (Microsoft Compiled HTML Help) no special software is required - such files open standard means of Windows OS. Books in this format in absolute majority are various reference books consisting of a set of HTML pages and the table of contents with links. Sometimes in them there are an index and information base for full-text search in contents of pages.
6. There is also a universal software giving the chance to read e-books in the majority of formats.
