French wine - a quality standard

The French wine makers developed the production of wine throughout the millennia. Modern French wines represent a role model and are a world standard of quality. What factors do them by so known and repeatedly titled products?

History of the French winemaking

For the first time winemaking appeared in the territory of France in 312 of our era when the nation of the French didn't arise yet. Many years the Burgundian wine makers made wine of the most various grades of grapes, constantly experimenting with search of the best recipes which could help them with sale of drink. The authorities practically didn't interfere with their activity, only sometimes introducing the amendments – so, at the end of the 14th century under the decree of the duke of Burgundy Philip Smely to wine makers forbade to grow up a grape grade din then significant increase in the area of vineyards of a grade of a pin noir was noted.

The well-known French wines always carry the name similar to the name of the region of their origin.

For the first time the quality of French wines was tried to be classified in the middle of the 10th century by means of establishment of five of its gradation. However in this classification no borders of the area where wines, grapes grades used at their production were made were considered. As during this period industrial revolution began, in the markets there was a huge number of fakes which were bought by the people unfamiliar with the wine brought from far away. Today all quality wines are designated by an abbreviation of AOS which indicates that drink was made by the farmer taking into account climatic and other features of the region.

Categories of French wines

There are four categories of the wines made in France – dining rooms, regional, wines of the superior quality from certain regions and wine with names which are controlled by origin. The table category on which labels it is forbidden to specify a grapes grade, year of circulation and the region is considered the cheapest and rough wines. The quality of other categories usually isn't subject to doubt. For obtaining the status of reference quality of AOS wine has to correspond to a set of standards – from grapes grades to technology of cultivation. The most quality regional French wines are produced in four wine regions which represent Languedoc, Laura, Conte-Tolozan and Conte-Rodanian's Valley. Quality departamentalny wines are made of the grades of grapes which are grown up in the territory of departments of France. The French zone wines which are grown up in the south of the country and as close as possible to terruarny wines have the most individual quality.
