Among nightshade family there are eggplants the most thermophilic culture. In the open ground they are mainly cultivated in the southern areas. Observing agrotechnology, it is possible to achieve quite good harvests in the south of Siberia and in midland of Russia.
Eggplants. Seedling
Grow up eggplants in the seedling way. This culture differs in long growth, in soil plant 70-80-day seedling. Under it prepare the soil consisting of the garden earth, coarse sand and humus in the ratio 1:1:2. On bucket of soil mix add glass of ashes and 50-60 g of superphosphate. For disinfecting the earth is steamed hot water.
At prorashchivaniye the seeds submerge in water with temperature of 40 °C at 3-5 minutes, further drain water, seeds turn in wet towel wipes and hold week. Before crops they are dried. As seedling eggplant badly transfers change, it is necessary to sow them in separate glasses. Before emergence of shoots the pots are kept in the warm, temperature should not be below 22-25 °C. At emergence of "eyelets" the containers put on windowsill, reduce temperature on 2-3 °. During the seedling period the eggplants consume a lot of water, waterings have to be regular.
Eggplants. Cultivation in soil
Culture exacting to cultivation conditions, sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Sharp increase or lowering leads to falling off of flowers and ovaries. Favorable temperature for development of plants of +25-28 °C. During blossoming and fructification the eggplants need abundant waterings.
Culture and to light is exacting, at strong thickening or shading the fruits grow small. Therefore under eggplants allocate the solar site where the earth well gets warm. The soil have to be easy, well fertilized. Before landing to beds bring on one bucket on 1 sq.m of peat and humus. Heavy soil is structured coarse bank sand and cut straw or sawdust.
During vegetation of plant need phosphorus-potassium power supply: on 1 sq.m bring 500-300 g of wood ashes or 100-150 g of potash salt and superphosphate. Daily care for plants consists weeds, loosening of soil cover, waterings at a distance. Predecessors eggplant are cucumbers, cabbage, onions, bean cultures, it is allowed to plant nightshade family after root crops.
