To calculate amount of the construction materials demanded for production of repair, there is need to determine room space. Technical data sheet on the apartment contains usually general information on all apartment therefore it is necessary to calculate parameters of each specific room separately. To learn the area, the minimum knowledge from school course of geometry is required.

Instruction
1. For the room having the form of rectangle or square use the corresponding formula in which data on lengths of the parties of these geometrical figures are used: S = A x B, gdes – the area; A and B – lengths of the parties of rectangle.
2. Remove furniture from walls and make measurement by means of measuring tape measure. Having used the help of the workmate, measure length of walls on plinth, without allowing deflections of tape measure and its excessive tension.
3. Transfer data of measurement to meters and record on the sheet of paper. Increase the measured room length by its width. As a result you receive the required room space expressed in square meters. For example, if length of the room was 5.3 m, and width – 3.8 m, then room space will be 5.3 x 3.8 = 20.14 sq.m.
4. If the room has irregular shape, for convenience of calculations draw its scheme on leaf. The scheme can be drawn randomly, without observance of exact proportions; the main thing that the drawing transferred room outlines.
5. Separate room space in the drawing into several simple geometrical figures. By means of tape measure make measurement of the allocated elements and write down results near each dividing line. Consistently calculate the areas of all figures of which there is room space. Put certain squares to receive required general result.
6. For calculation of the component of the scheme having the form of right triangle use formula: S = (A x B) / 2, gdes – the area of triangle; A and B – lengths of legs; x – the sign of multiplication.
7. Carrying out calculation of the area of the room having niches, ledges, columns and other structural components surely consider their availability. Depending on type of element the space occupied by it needs to be added to the area of simple figure or, on the contrary, to subtract from it.
