How to grow up birch

Birches - unpretentious, zharo- and winter-hardy plants with openwork krone and light bark. There are tall and undersized types. Planting birches at the dacha, you remember that any will be suitable for tree, even, apparently, absolutely poor and infertile soil (the main thing – that there were no remains of rhizomes of weeds even), but at the same time it will demand very large volume of water. Birches can be grown up both from saplings, and from seeds.

It is required to you

  • seeds, saplings, fertilizer, fertilizing, layer of branches or straw, the device for shadowing, fungicides and insecticides against fungus and wreckers

Instruction

1. It is better to buy saplings with earth koma (in this case even winter landing with the exposed to frost lump is possible) or in containers. In landing holes previously stack mix of the garden earth, humus, sand and peat (proportions - 2:1:1:1). It is possible to add 150 – 200 grams of complex fertilizer at spring landing or as much phosphorus-potassium fertilizing at autumn to landing.

2. Birch seeds ripen at the end of summer – early autumn. Before landing they need processing by cold. It is possible to sustain slightly damp seeds of birch in the fridge or in the winter on the street within three-four weeks, and then to dry them at the room temperature. Seeds is recommended to be sown or at the beginning of winter in already chilled soil, or in the early spring as soon as snow descends. It is worth placing seeds directly on the surface of the humidified earth, without digging in, and then slightly to press plate. From above they can be covered with small branches or straw and to water already through this layer. As soon as there are shoots, the covering from branches or straw should be removed, and to pritenit young trees (for example, wooden guards).

3. At cultivation of birches special attention should be paid to fight against weeds which can strongly interfere with development of young plants (when weeding tree are easily damaged). For prevention from wreckers and fungi of birch it is necessary to process annually fungicides and insecticides. In the early spring, prior to allocation of birch sap, undercutting of branches of birch is recommended.
