How to grow up celery seedling

For receiving good large root crops of celery – the spicy vegetable culture differing in the high content of carotene, vitamins and mineral salts - it is necessary to sustain the long vegetative period which is not less than 170 days. But as in the conditions of short summer this requirement is impracticable, the celery is grown up in the seedling way like tomatoes and pepper.

Instruction

1. Place sack with seeds celery at first in warm, and then in cold water for 15 minutes. Scatter seeds on damp fabric thin layer and leave to be couched in the warm place at temperature of 20-22 °C. This procedure will allow to accelerate process of emergence of shoots. Put thin layer of the crushed straw which will absorb surplus of water when watering on bottom of sowing box and to maintain the necessary temperature of the soil.

2. Prepare nutritious mix from 1 part of the humus mixed with coarse-grained bank sand, 3 parts of low-lying peat and 1 part of the cespitose soil. Add to mix teaspoon of urea and 2 glasses of wood ashes (at the rate on 1 bucket). Spread out celery seeds ranks to the surfaces of the soil and powder them with thin layer of damp sand, using sieve. It will provide free access of air that is one of the main conditions for fast germination.

3. Cover box with transparent film and place it in the warm place. If necessary humidify seedling with warm water, using the sprayer. The first shoots will appear 2 weeks later after crops. Wait for emergence of the first shoots of celery, remove film from box and transfer it to the lit place. Maintain air temperature at the level of 16 °C. Thin out seedling in those places where shoots have appeared very frequent. You watch that the soil was damp and friable.

4. Feed up plants urea if their leaves have pale coloring. Regularly you loosen row-spacings, water, air seedling of celery and feed up it mineral fertilizers. You take out seedling outside at first per day, and then and for the night some days before landing. When height of plants reaches 12 centimeters, and on them there will be not less than 4 leaves, seedling of celery is ready to disembarkation to the open ground.
