How to grow up tulips

It is necessary to grow up tulips from bulbs. Bulbs of tulips divide on analyses, the bulbs of tulip allowing to define quality and landing depth.

The short vegetative period is characteristic of tulips: growth of roots continues from 4 to 5 weeks after landing in the fall, growth of elevated part lasts from 10 to 12 weeks in the spring. For this period the tulip both grows, and blossoms, at the same time forming new rudiments for future bulbs. Therefore tulips are exacting to power supply and consume large amount of useful substances. It is better to grow up tulips on sunny side of the site which is well protected from strong and cold wind.

For landing rich with nutrients recommend to choose loamy soils. These soils have to differ in high fertility with neutral reaction and have such characteristics as: moisture content, friability and good air permeability. It is necessary to choose heavier soils only if add large amount of sand to it — 20 kg on 1 sq.m, peat, the rotted-through manure or others organic fertilizers.

Neutral and alkalescent soils reckon with level rn from 6.5 to 7.5 as more preferable to landing of tulips. Sour soils should not be used. The place for planting of tulips needs to be changed every year. It is impossible to return flowers on the former place earlier than in 3 — 4. It is not recommended to plant flowers after asters, gladioluses, cucumbers and onions. As a rule, the way should be paved for landing of bulbs of tulip in one or two months that the earth has managed to sink. Redigging of the soil is carried out on depth of 30 cm, at the same time it is necessary to remove all long-term weeds, to get rid of wreckers and to introduce the corresponding fertilizers. As a rule, organic fertilizers, except for manure, put in the spring before landing of tulips. The amount of the brought nutrients depends on fertility of the soil (10-50 kg on 1 sq.m). Fresh manure is put to the earth in year after landing of bulbs. If fertilizing by mineral fertilizers was not carried out before redigging of the soil, then before landing 100 g on 1 sq.m. are recommended to introduce complex mineral fertilizers in the ratio. Nitrogen fertilizers can be introduced both in the spring after snow, and in the fall on the top frozen layer of the earth thaws. During mortgaging of mineral fertilizers it is desirable not to lose sight that the correct proportion of sodium, phosphorus and potassium has to make 1:1.5:3.
