The absolute majority of modern fixing operations is connected with application of dowels which allow to hold reliably both the easy, and strengthened designs in materials of various thickness, density and hardness. Dowel are widely applied under repair and construction and also at production of furniture and other most various designs. Correctly picked up dowel will provide durability and reliability of fastening.

Instruction
1. Define expected operative conditions of that design in which you are going to use dowels. For use of design indoors there is no fundamental difference in the materials applied to production of dowels – parent materials are nylon and polypropylene today. All external designs which operation will take place in more severe weather patterns demand more responsible approach to material therefore it is better to apply dowels to external works from more resistant to external temperature influences polyamide nylon.
2. Define type of that surface in which it is necessary to bury dowel. For solid walls spreader or expanding dowels are used; anchor dowels will be suitable for hollow, multihollow or layered walls. Besides there is also number of special purpose dowels. These are dowels for gypsum cardboard, sheet surfaces, front and others.
3. Define load scale which will be tested by design in the place of fixture - the type and thickness of the used dowel and also size of its deepening in wall or design will depend on it. The general rule such is that what the heavy load will be used by fixing knot, especially deep has to be fastening and also more powerful dowel. Usually for creation of rigid joint of fastening use dowels with a diameter of 8-10 mm, and bury them at 30-100 mm, depending on thickness and weight of the attached design. Such versions of fixture at which loading influences dowel vertically down or horizontally break are considered as the most responsible. When load of dowel works vertically down, it is also important to consider and the device of dowel – the spreader dowel has to contain the special external notches strengthening coupling and also short moustaches or spreader wings.
4. Drill opening under specific dowel. It becomes so that the dowel could be hammered into opening with some effort. Usually diameter coincides by the size with diameter of drill for opening or becomes a little less. For the bigger durability of fastening of dowel in opening it is possible to use PVA glue, previously having greased with it dowel. In this case it is possible to use the self-tapping screw or screw after glue drying.
