How to read electronic schemes

The basic purpose of skeleton electronic diagram is in that with sufficient presentation and completeness to reflect interconnection between separate elements of the device (device). The skeleton diagram serves for studying systems of automation, production of electronic equipment and its correct operation. The ability to read similar schemes allows to understand operation principle of system and to bring in it in need of addition, specification or change.

1. Begin reading skeleton diagram with the general acquaintance with it and with the list of the elements entering into structure of product. Find each of elements on the scheme, understand their relative positioning. Study also all explanations and notes which are attached to the electronic scheme.

2. Determine by the scheme electric power supply system, windings of magnetic actuators, the relay and electromagnets (at their availability). Find all energy sources and determine current sort by each of them, tension parameters, phasing (in alternating current circuits) and polarity (in direct current circuits). Compare the obtained data with the equipment ratings specified in technical documentation.

3. Find switching elements and devices of protection according to the scheme. Safety locks, automatic machines, the relay of maximum current and so on concern them. On inscriptions on skeleton diagram, to the notes and tables attached to the scheme define zone of protection of each of these elements.

4. Study chains of electroreceivers (the electric engine, windings of the magnetic actuator, etc.). Begin the purposeful analysis with the main electroreceiver which the electric engine usually is (at its availability in product). Trace all chains of this element from one pole to another. Note for yourself all contacts, resistors and diodes entering electroreceiver chain.

5. Estimate assignment of each of the considered elements. At the same time it is convenient to make assumption that this element (the resistor, the diode, the condenser) in the scheme is absent, having asked question: "To what consequences will lead removal from the scheme of this element?"

6. Reading the electronic scheme, you always proceed from the purpose which faces you. Usually studying skeleton diagram pursues the aim of identification of mistakes in mounting, definitions of possible causes of failure of the device, establishment of elements which can become the cause of failures in system.
