"Razzudis, shoulder! Swing, hand!" Such vigorous mowing is possible only at sharp tool. The stupid braid will very quickly beat out daring and vigor from any worker, and several pathetic hundred parts with the grass which is sticking out in the middle of row will be result of its work. But the sharp tool will lay equal, as on string row on which each blade is slanted. "Shaves!" – in this case skilled workers approvingly speak. Process of preparation of braid includes two operations – beating and sharpening.
- Sharpening stone, fender block, the hammer for beating of braids.
1. Prepare workplace for beating. For this purpose hammer into face of the block suitable by the sizes (diameter of 200-300 mm and 400-500 mm long) fender block. At distance of 1-1.5 m from block thrust stick with fork or two sticks at an angle to each other connected in the place of crossing. It will be support for kosovishch. Pick up suitable stool or chair which height will be a little (on 50-100 mm) below block with block. Put the tool so that its staff leaned on cross hairs of sticks, and the edge bottom side lay on block.
2. Whet scythe. Begin beating with heel. Poll of hammer blows of average force spill edge of edge about 2.5-3 mm wide until it does not become thin. Poll of hammer dispose at a small angle to edge, so that with braid only part of poll of hammer contacted. Along with blows move edge on block, advancing the place of release to its tip. Traverse speed has to be synchronized with speed of thinning of edge. Try to catch that extreme extent of thinning after which the edge begins to be bent and crack. Do not allow it. Beating is considered finished when delayed is all edge except for the tip (1-2 cm).
3. Whet scythe. For this purpose thrust the end of staff to the earth or set it against some emphasis. Become so that the top of kosovishch passed armpit of the left hand (for right-handed persons). The end of edge has to look to the earth. Put fingers of the left hand rear side braids closer by its end, shoulder and fingers reliably fix the tool. In the right hand take sharpening stone for its end (approximately for 1/3 of its lengths) and you make turning of sharpening stone by the movement from heel by the end of the tool, alternately letting it with one, on the other side of edge. Begin turning from heel, displacing it to tip. The approximate quantity of grinding movements – 10-15.
