The geranium is one of the most popular blossoming plants in our latitudes. Often the geranium is landed on window ledges because abundance of red or pink colors is extremely charming decoration of the house. The mountain wooden huts decorated with red geranium are characteristic element of mountain landscape.
The first step: pots
Before planting flowers, you have to prepare the corresponding pots or boxes for window. Though flowers will beautifully look in wooden boxes, but boxes of this kind, as a rule, it is heavier, than plastic. They also are dearer. Wooden flowerpots are available in various shades and flowers. When choosing pots, attentively consider their amount and method of assembly. Together with boxes, pots with special handles which facilitate their establishment on windowsills or on balcony handrail, as a rule, are on sale.
The second step: earth
The earth into which you insert geranium shanks has to be fertile and damp. For this purpose, you can buy universal top soil, as a rule, it is on sale in plastic bags. On bottom of pot it is necessary to fill in haydite, the remains of the broken ceramic pots or some gravel. It guarantees that roots of plants will have big air permeability and will not decay. The plant in plastic pot can easily "choke" because it has very limited space for growth. For grounding it is also necessary to fill in hydrogel or powder which stores water and nutrients if it is necessary to provide to flowers hydration. You can also pour in dry fertilizer in granules which will be gradually dissolved during the whole season.
The third step: saplings
The most popular grade are geraniums. Nevertheless, they have quite fragile and fragile stalks so it is not necessary to put them, for example, on windowsills of high-rise buildings where strong winds blow. This grade of flowers - very delicate, but correctly well-groomed and watered flowers beautifully grow, forming dense flower carpets. The geranium large-flowered is thicker, has the jagged leaves and flowers collected in large umbrellas (apprx. 5 cm in the diameter). Such grades are ideal for cultivation in the pots standing on terrace or balcony.
The fourth step: application of fertilizers
Geraniums demand regular fertilizer. Only in two weeks after landing, you can begin to water with the fertilizers rich with potassium therefore the plant will beautifully blossom. It is also necessary to know that fertilizer with nitrogen will lead to the bigger growth of leaves. It is possible to buy special fertilizer for geranium. Biogumus, Planton, "Florovit", "BIOPON" or "Substral" are the most popular brands. Fertilizer can be in the form of liquid or powder which has to be dissolved in water. Geraniums love the sun and light therefore you should not worry, you can plant them on South side, but have to remember need of regular watering. Correctly fertilized flowers will be throughout all season decoration of our windows, balconies and terraces.
