Mastic is used for covering enough plain surfaces, for example, such as construction panels. It is possible to tell that mastic is the jellied mix consisting of the melkomoloty, fibrous and pulling together bituminous filler and other numerous impurity. Still it is called pitch.
There are several types of mastic which is determined by its pulling together material. It follows from this that there are several types of mastic: - perchlorvinyl; - polyvinyl acetate;
- Smolny; - butumny, etc.
In case pitch (mastic) is based on synthetic materials, it creates condition for reliable and strong fastening with the basis, very good holodo- and moisture resistance. What is important, in this structure there are no toxins. Bituminous pitch (mastic) consists from:
- bitumen, BN-70/30 brand — 1; - acidproof cement; - asbestos, the sixth or seventh grade.
Preparation of mastic for floors
Mastic is irreplaceable as pro-layer at production of acid-resistant floors. To prepare structure for work, it is necessary to perform the following operations: to pour out in special boiler which is already filled with the melted bitumen on ¾ parts, dry mix of asbestos with cement at the same time it is obligatory to stir slowly mix. Then it is necessary to warm the turned-out weight to 200 wasps, stirring slowly within 4-5 hours. However it is necessary to remember that oils which contain in bitumen have not disappeared and also the sticking together property of mastic was not lost, temperature of mix should not exceed 220 wasps. If you have overheated mastic, it will be visible on mist over boiler. Ready to application bituminous mastic is when the taken sample from boiler in break is black color, of course, it should be made after mastic cools down. Dilute structures with white spirit, kerosene or solventy. They are most effective. And here it is extremely not recommended to use water, gasoline or diesel fuel because lumps can go. If it is necessary to perform rather big and laborious works, the prepared pitch (mastic) is brought by special machines and poured out in autothermos, from there it is taken for works and if, there is such need, surely warmed up.
Biski
Biski is bituminous and turpentine mastic, represents the bituminous mix in turpentine containing impurity and fillers. It is used for gluing of polyvinylchloride tiles and linoleum with fabric basis. Delivery of mastic happens in densely closed cans and in finished form. Before application it is necessary to mix carefully. If mastic dense, then it has to be warmed up in hot water at temperature 30-40os together with container. Effective life of such mastic – 6 months.
