As there lived ancient Greeks in the policies

Ancient Greece represented set of policies. The policy is a city-state as a part of antique Greece with the social system reminding civil community. In its framework the economy, policy, culture and life of society was formed.

In Ancient Greece, as well as one thousand years ago, there was a warm and arid climate. Many residents of this solar country were engaged in farming, fishing and trade. Soldiers, teachers, philosophers, scientists and artists also occurred among the population.

Each Greek city was allocated with the beautiful temples decorated with stone columns and statues and also open theaters where the audience took seat to see production performances.

Not all inhabitants had prosperity. The most part of the population lived in rural areas and villages. Many Greeks went in search of new lands for settling as not everywhere farmer grounds, water and construction materials was enough.

Society of antique policies represented set of three classes: slaves, small producers and dealers, slaveholders.

As Ancient Greek houses looked

Usually in each house of the ancient Greek there was a courtyard with a garden. Walls were put up from the wood and bricks made of mix of clay and dirt. In each dwelling there were small windows without glasses which were closed on a wooden sun blind for protection against the scorching sun.

Indoors there was no surplus of furniture. The Greek family used wooden chairs and tables. Rich inhabitants of the policy often resorted to dressing of walls and floors.

Many families had no bathroom of the house as it was accepted to wash in public baths. Policies in Ancient Greece coped by means of men. Women were limited in the rights and will. For this reason for many women it was forbidden to leave the dwelling to do household chores and to raise children. 

Ancient Greeks slept on the beds filled by wool, feathers and a dry grass. To go to sleep it was accepted with nightfall. Rooms were lit by means of oil lamps and candles.

Ancient Greek women wore a long tunic which was called a tunic. It was made of whole cotton or linen fabric. Over it the woman, as well as men, wore a cape – gimatiya. Depending on weather the cape was or from fine fabric, or from dense.

Young men wore short tunics, elderly - often chose long. Some slaves managed a loincloth at all.

Many residents of Ancient Greece went barefoot. Some wore leather sandals or high boots for riding. Both men, and women were protected from the sun by means of wide-brimmed hats. Women liked to decorate themselves with different bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

What Ancient Greeks ate

In Ancient Greece men and the women ate food separately. Rich often ate houses, in public places only slaves and poor people ate. Tableware was not therefore ancient Greeks ate the food which is previously cut in kitchen, hands.

For breakfast they preferred fruit, bread with wine. On having a snack – bread and cheese. For lunch – porridges, cheese, fish, vegetables, eggs and fruit. Instead of sweets – nuts, figs, cookies with addition of honey. Rich inhabitants always included meat dishes and seafood in the diet.
