What is ""Butterfly Effect"

In everyday life of people often does not pay attention to trifles. Usual things, turmoil, life occupy all its attention. And each of trifles can seriously affect its future, on confluence of vital events.

"Butterfly Effect": scientific theory

In science the influence of trifles on a system is defined by the term "Butterfly Effect". According to the theory of chaos, even scanty waves of a butterfly influence the atmosphere that finally can change a tornado movement trajectory, accelerate, detain or even to prevent its emergence in certain time and in a certain place. That is, though the butterfly is not an initiator of natural disaster, she is included in a chain of events and has on it direct influence.

Several decades ago scientists assumed that at the beginning of the twenty first century the computers will be able to do exact weather forecasts for the half a year ahead. However now because of similar effect it is impossible to make absolutely exact forecast even for several days.

"Butterfly Effect": history of the term

"Butterfly Effect" is connected with a name of the American mathematician and meteorologist Edward Lawrence. The scientist connected the term with the theory of chaos and also with dependence of a system on its initial state. The idea was for the first time voiced in 1952 at the American science fiction writer Ray Bradbury in the story "Also Burst a Thunder" where, having got to the past, the dinosaurs hunter crushed a butterfly and by that affected the fate of the American people: voters chose instead of the loyal candidate – the ardent fascist. Whether had this story on further use of the term by Lawrence? Big question. But year of the edition of the story suggests that Bradbury's thought was primary, and the scientist scientifically proved and popularized this definition. In 1961 after an unsuccessful weather forecast Edward Lawrence said that if such theory was correct, one wave of a wing of a seagull could change development of weather.

Current use of the term "Butterfly Effect"

Now this term became quite popular. It is often used in scientific articles, newspaper materials and telecasts. In 2004 the American feature film under the name "Butterfly Effect" was published, and in 2006 its second part appeared. However the use of such term in most cases is not absolutely correct or incorrect. Most often it is connected with a travel of people (heroes of the movie, for example) in time, and it already impact on history. The person does not even need to change anything in the past that the future already was other. From here distortion of the term "Butterfly Effect" in minds of the gross audience.
