As scientists explained a red rain in India

In the Indian city of Kannur of the State of Kerala on August 24, 2012 on the earth the red rain spilled. The scarlet water similar to blood, instantly flooded streets, having painted roads, buildings and clothes of the passersby who were caught in the rain to red color.

The similar unusual atmospheric phenomenon occurs in India not the first time. In 2001 the residents of the country became witnesses not only red pouring rains, but also yellow, green and even black. In total more than 120 color heavy rains fell upon the Indian states. Five years later the unusual rain repeated. And here in 2012 the inhabitants became witnesses of a frightening scarlet rain which went within fifteen minutes.

Soon after loss of unusual precipitation there were also first reports of scientists explaining this phenomenon. Experts from Scientific center of terrestrial researches and Research botanical institute established that disputes of epifitny green seaweed, symbionts of the lichens characteristic of this area were guilty of unusual coloring of a rain. According to scientists, the smallest particles which there was much in air as a result of the mass growth of lichens, and caused unusual coloring. Other impurity, including dust of unspecified origin, according to researchers in the withdrawn tests of rain water it was revealed not.

However later the Indian scientists made other, informal hypothesis. According to the famous astrobiologist Godfrey Luiz, in drops of a color rain unknown particles of extraterrestrial origin were found. Luís considers that it is comet fragments. The celestial body could fly by near the Sun on the extended elliptic orbit therefore small particles separated from a tail of a comet and were brought by space wind to Earth. Part of them remained in an orbit of the blue planet, and a part dropped out on the earth together with an atmospheric precipitation. Besides, according to the astrobiologist, in India the lichens were always widespread, however color rains are rather new natural phenomenon which was not observed before the beginning of the 21st century.
