Geological history of the Czech lands

On the basis of modern geomorphological researches it is possible to track quite precisely the geological history of the Czech Republic and Moravia adjoining to it from their emergence, that is from formation of earth crust.

Where the Czech Republic is nowadays located, already in an extreme antiquity breeds from which during millions of years the nature as the great artist, created the Czech mountains and plains accumulated. It is also possible to track further changes which were made in this massif. At big depths, under constant pressure of the neighboring massifs and under the influence of high temperature and also under the influence of thermal waters there was a crystallization of various substances until slate which owing to processes of mountain building appeared on a surface was formed of them; slate — the breed typical for the massif of the Czech Republic. As a result of further volcanic activity the granite massifs not less typical for a country landscape were formed. Thus, on very approximate calculations of geologists, more than one billion years ago the foundation was laid for formation of a surface of earth crust which part became the territory of the Czech Republic. Further the nature needed to create from this material those wonderful forms of the earth's surface what only one she could create and which are so characteristic of the Czech territory.

Process of formation of a modern relief of the country began in immemorial times, during the most ancient era of primary formation of mountains (Palaeozoic Era), in the so-called Cambrian Period. Already then as a result of continuous volcanic activity in the Czech Republic the mountain range which during millions of years remained then the main arena of manifestation of a creative power of the nature was formed. This range — modern Brda, the most ancient mountain chain in the Czech Republic — lasted from the center of the country on the West and the southwest. The depths of this mountain range contain rich deposits of mineral minerals. For further economic development of the Czech Republic iron ores in krzhivo-klatsko-rokitsanskoy and silver in a przhibramsky zone had the greatest value. Already hundreds in the Czech Republic began to be deposited millions years ago these mineral riches which promoted further the growth of well-being of nation continuing and now.

Life appeared here at first hardly considerably, and the first signs of life need to be referred besides to the Cambrian Period. When during the Cambrian Period there came comparative calm, on the place of the present Czech plateau the superficial sea which was rather small with a comparative height of the Czech plateau was formed. At the bottom of this sea began to settle deposits, characteristic of modern Czech lands — clays, sands and limestones. The fact that the sea brought here and the first organisms, the first living beings was especially important. It was the marine fauna of the simplest, primary Crustacea — trilobit. On the land there were still no signs of life in those days. But also emergence of this fauna was the greatest milestone, the greatest event in the history of the Czech earth. In the territory of the present Czech Republic the first living organisms appeared. The sea disappeared from this territory, but life any more any more never stopped on the Czech lands. The fauna continued to develop also after shallowing of the sea. There were new animal species — cephalopods, slugs, later — armor-clad fishes, corals. Emergence of the first plants belongs to the same time, the simplest flora develops. So there was very peculiar fauna which in combination with features of geological development of the Czech Republic received also own name — "Czech silur". "Czech silur" gained the world popularity the extraordinary richness of forms and types and also thanks to the fact that it represents a picture of continuous development of the same area for hundred million years. In Moravia in the Devonian Period geological the rich area stretching from Brno through Olomouc and Przherov to Border and Opavsko with not smaller, than in the Czech Republic, abundance of fossil fauna was also formed. Great limy deposits of the Devonian Period in Moravia gained the world fame. In Moravian to Beauty, in the glorified Sloupsk and in other caves there are stalactites of the most various sizes, forms, paints and combinations relating to the same time exclusive, absolutely fantastic beauty — an original miracle of art creativity of the nature — being surprising around the world. These caves during later period served the primitive person who appeared in the territory of the Czech Republic as the first, rare in those days, a shelter. These riches, deposits of minerals in the Czech lands, were created in very remote times remote from us approximately on 500 — 300 million years. The first, rather quiet period in the geological history of the Czech Republic and Moravia also came to the end with it. Already at the end of Devon and further, in the Carboniferous Period, the next stage in the history of our earth begins; it was the period of new accidents.
