How to assemble the Stirlinga engine

The Stirlinga engine is one of alternatives to the steam-engine. At the time it did not become widespread because of low reliability and insufficient efficiency. But already today this original engine found application in refrigeration units and even as a part of power plants during the work in space. It is possible to assemble the working model of the Stirlinga engine also by the hands.

It is required to you

  • - sheet of tin;
  • - brass or copper tube;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - solder;
  • - gumboil.

Instruction

1. Make two cylinders and a fire chamber of the sheet of tin. Make the amount of preparations, proceeding from the preferences and the required sizes of all product. In our case width of development of a cylinder is 225 mm. From outer side of one of cylinders solder ears with an internal diameter about 4 mm (they I will play a role of bearings).

2. Manufacture the water camera. Cut out from tin two circles on diameter of the turned-out cylinder. In the center of circles make openings for a tube. Length of a tube has to be about 30 mm, and internal diameter – 3 mm. Fix a tube by means of soldering in a cylinder. At the same time observe accuracy that the camera turned out tight (water should not pass through walls of the water camera).

3. From an easy wooden cylinder collect the displacer that diameter it was slightly less than diameter of a cylinder. Pick up height of the displacer by practical consideration. Make a rod of a needle. Upholster from two parties a wooden cylinder with circles from tin.

4. Make in the center of the cylinder an opening on diameter of a rod and with a tightness insert it into a rod. The last has to go on a camera tube freely, without considerable friction. In the top part of a rod drill an opening for the connecting rod.

5. Make a small cylinder 40 mm long of a scrap of a copper tube and with a diameter of 20 mm. From below solder this cylinder a circle from brass. Drill in a ready cylinder an opening for the message with the first (big) cylinder.

6. Pay special attention to the piston on which quality work of model of the engine depends. It is desirable to turn it on the lathe. In the top part of the piston on the hinge strengthen a rod.

7. Collect all elements of the engine in a whole. Insert the piston into a big cylinder, having adjusted it by the sizes. Seal in cylinders a tube for the message them with each other. Collect the krivoshipno-conrod mechanism. Solder a bottom of a cylinder. Define an engine housing on a fire chamber and attach soldering. As the tank for cooling will serve the can. Fix the tank near the engine on a wooden support.
