Wind rose call the circular vector chart reflecting the direction of the movement of wind during the certain period. Similar schedules widely use in meteorology, climatology and also at construction of runways of airfields, inhabited massifs and industrial zones. 1. In the educational purposes the wind rose is often studied at lessons of study of local lore and geography, and also in construction higher education institutions and technical schools. It is not difficult to construct the simplest wind rose for a certain area. This task is often performed by school students of 6-9 classes.
2. To construct independently a wind rose data on the daily direction of wind for a month or more will be necessary. These data can be received independently by daily observations of weather, and it is also possible to take in "The calendar of weather" for the studied period.
3. Then the chart basis for ordering of observations is under construction. For this purpose draw the system of coordinates in which the main axes will reflect four main parts of the world – the North, the East, the South and the West. Then, through the center of coordinates carry out additional two axes and note on them intermediate parts of the world: northeast, southeast, northwest and southwest. On each axis postpone the uniform divisions symbolizing the conditional number of days. If the monthly period is considered, intervals of coordinates can reflect one day.
4. After the performed preparatory work it is possible to pass directly to creation of a wind rose. For this purpose count the number of days for which wind blew in a certain direction, and postpone them on each of axes. Note the number of days of each direction a point. Then accurately connect the received points straight lines that the closed polygon turned out. (Calm) note the number of windless days in a circle the center of the chart. If throughout the studied interval of time in some of the directions light of wind was not, the connecting line in it the place has to be interrupted.
5. As a result of work you receive a wind rose for your region for the studied period. Its beams will be uneven, and the longest of them will show the prevailing direction of the movement of winds in the studied territory.
6. It is possible to construct the chart of a wind rose also in the automatic way in the Excel application. For this purpose create the file in which enter the available data on the number of days and the direction of winds in the form of the table. Two columns have to turn out: with names of the directions of light and with the number of windy days. Then in the Insert menu - "Chart" choose a position "The petal chart" and follow advice of the master of creation of charts. As a result receive the graphic representation of a wind rose.
