How to define the category of an adjective

In Russian in compliance it is accepted to select with lexical norms three categories of adjectives. They are divided into qualitative, relative and possesive. To define accessory to any given category, it is necessary to learn that signs of this adjective designate.

Instruction

1. If the qualitative adjective is about quality characteristics of a subject, respectively, before us. They can estimate a subject of weight (heavy), to the size (large), I will increase (young), I blossom (green), appearance (graceful) or to internal qualities (silent). Difference from others that adjectives of this category easily give in to transformation to a short form go in step with degrees of comparison (big – more - the biggest) and also are perfectly combined with degree adverbs (very big). One more characteristic feature: qualitative adjectives are capable to form adverbs with suffixes – e, - oh, - and (strict - it is strict).

2. Relative adjectives transfer the relation to something. They call signs of a subject of material (gold), to the location (rural), time (evening), to the performed operation (washing) and to appointment (news). They can call the person (parental), number (second, fifth), a concept (literary). Do not give in to degrees of comparison and do not form a short form.

3. Possesive adjectives designate accessory of any given sign (hare pad) and answer a question whose? whose? whose? whose? They do not change on degrees of comparison, but suffixes – in/yn (mother's cream), - ov/ev (fathers a jacket), y are characteristic only of them (a bird's beak).
