How to receive sodium sulfate

Sodium sulfate (other name – sodium sulfate) has chemical formula Na2SO4. Represents itself colourless crystal substance. It is widespread in the nature, mainly, in the form of "glauberovy salt" - crystalline hydrate in which one molecule of sodium sulfate holds ten molecules of water. It is fire and explosion-proof. How do receive sodium sulfate?

Instruction

1. As sulfate of sodium is the salt formed by the strong basis of NaOH and strong H2SO4 acid, its solution has an indicator rn, close to neutral. That is indicators of type of litmus and phenolphthalein in solution of this salt do not change color.

2. The main amount of this substance is got in the open way, in places where there are big deposits of glauberovy salt and other similar minerals.

3. Also there is an industrial way – interaction of sulfuric acid with sodium chloride at high temperatures (about 550 degrees). Reaction goes as follows: 2NaCl + H2SO4 = Na2SO4 + 2HCl

4. Sodium sulfate can be also received when processing so-called "phosphite" - production wastes of the phosphoric fertilizers containing calcium sulfate – CaSO4.

5. In vitro, it is possible to receive sodium sulfate, influencing sulfuric acid the soda calcinated (sodium carbonic). Reaction goes all the way as weak coal acid which at once decays on water and carbon dioxide is as a result formed: H2SO4 + Na2CO3 = Na2SO4 + H2CO3H2CO3 = H2O + CO2

6. It is possible to receive sodium sulfate also by means of neutralization reaction (interaction of a caustic natr with sulfuric acid): 2NaOH + H2SO4 = Na2SO4 + 2H2O
