By tradition a wedding ring, accurate and unpretentious, without large central stone, made of precious metal or a combination of several, Orthodox Christians carry on a ring finger of the right hand. This ornament is a symbol of matrimonial bonds, and it is possible to see it on hands of both men, and women.
Wedding rings which newly married exchange in day of registration of the marital status were traditional in Ancient Egypt. Was considered that through a ring finger there passes the nerve tied with heart therefore this finger was chosen to carry on it a symbol of conjugal ties. Possibly, such "tag" is unconscious need to show to applicants of an opposite sex that this object is already occupied. Anyway, but rings in Ancient Egypt were already used, however, made them of more democratic materials – spun from hemp or reed. Later wattled rings were replaced by stronger, from metal. It is natural that the people belonging to different classes and social groups carried different rings and made them of various metals. The ring has symbolical value. Its round shape designates eternity, and means constancy of conjugal ties and infinity of their love for spouses. Wedding rings serve as a mascot and a charm of love. Attach them mystical significance and force, use when carrying out ceremonies and guessing. As a symbol of matrimonial bonds the wedding rings use many people, they can be met on fingers of Chinese and Japanese, Indians, Israelis, Arabs, residents of the European countries and North Africa, Americans and Canadians. In Russia initially wedding rings were made of different metals for the groom and the bride. Husbands carried gold rings, wives – silver as symbols of the Sun and the Moon. Today pair rings for newlyweds make of one metal. Actually, whether you need wedding rings or are not necessary, to carry them or not, depends only on desire of the husband and the wife. Long and happy life in marriage actually hardly depends on it. But agree that tradition this rather ancient and beautiful to refuse it. And the price of rings is not really important here – existence of mutual feeling which symbol they serve, it is much more important. Therefore if you are not able to afford expensive rings, it is not an occasion to refuse them absolutely.
