Race cars have to become faster, despite change of regulations

Technical directors of "Formula One" predict that new race cars will become quicker than the predecessors though change of rules had to lead to the fact that they will become more slowly.

At the end of 2018 the technical regulations were changed to increase staginess and to facilitate overtakings in the race - for this purpose simplified the front rear wing, side deflectors and air ducts of front brakes.

At first teams assumed that cars will become for two seconds more slowly. The head of Ferrari team Mattia Binotto told on the presentation of the new race car: "On measurements in the aerodynamic tunnel we assume that the race car will become for 1.5 seconds more slowly".

However expectations weren't met also by results of the first week of winter tests on which race cars quickly went at the same pace which was 12 months ago.

The leader of the first week was Nicko Hyulkenberg on Renault over time 1.17.393 which was very close to the best time of last year on early tests - then it was Sebastian Vettel's time 1.17.182.

The difference will seem to even more dramatic if to compare indicators of the first week. Last year following the results of the first four days Lewis Hamilton 1.19.333 was over time the leader.

Though weather this year is warmer and the covering was changed that accelerated race cars, there are no doubts that teams managed to level losses in speed because of change of regulations.

The technical director of Renault Nick Chester expects that race cars of this year will be able to surpass the last year's indicator of the best passing of the circle as during the second week traditionally racers considerably accelerate.

"At the end of tests the race cars will go much quicker than last year. I think that as a result they in general will become quicker than race cars of last year", - he told.

Though the deputy technical director of Toro Rosso Jody Eggington at first had pessimistic forecasts, however he told that the sharpness of engineers of royal races was underestimated.

""Engineering divisions of teams extremely work in overcoming calls", - he told. - I think that the complexity of the translation of what was told by people about time difference was the key moment. When we for the first time parked the new car in the aerodynamic tunnel, lost balance, distribution of air flows is a lot of clamping force and in general. Very many teams faced the same problems.

After that all started leveling of these losses. In our case we studied everything to the last small screw to find additional opportunities of increase in power of our race car.

History shows that teams extremely work on fast restoration of losses and look for and find new opportunities, even despite big restrictions in regulations. Let's look what will be in the first races".
