If you hold houses an overland turtle and like to watch the favourite, then sooner or later you have to have a question: "Girl or boy?" Exact sex determination of a turtle is possible only when your pet is six-eight years old, and length of an armor will exceed 10 cm. At the majority of types overland skulls it is simple to define a sex.
Instruction
1. Look at a tail of an adult turtle. At a male it more long and more, than at a female.
2. Glance to the pet in eyes. At males of marsh turtles, as a rule, eyes have a brown shade, and at females of an eye yellow.
3. Well consider the belly party of an armor – a plastron. Males have more concave form of a plastron and pronounced femoral spurs. By means of such form when pairing it is easier for males of an overland turtle to keep on corps of a female. At females the plastron has more flat form. That is, if at your turtle the concave tummy is a male if a stomach flat or convex – a female.
4. Attentively look at an animal foul place. At males it looks as the longitudinal strip, at females has the asterisk form.
5. Pay attention to a form of the armor. At males it from a tail is strongly bent to the earth, and the tail long and is completely hidden by an armor. At the self-check the tail short also is outside of an armor.
6. Attentively see an armor of your turtle. At females of trionex often on an armor pronounced hillocks are noticeable, and at males they gradually smooth out with age, and their armor becomes smooth.
7. Pick up an animal and examine pads. Claws at males of a turtle are much longer, than at females.
8. Observe behavior of a turtle. It can help you with sex determination of your pet too. Males usually have the aggressive and active nature of behavior, often they bite rivals for pads, try to get on females, attack relatives. It is very often possible to observe how the mature male tries to turn other male head over heels. Movements up-headfirst are also characteristic of adult males. At females of such behavior it is not observed.
9. If you hold several overland skulls at the same time, visually compare their sizes. As a rule, the majority of overland species of turtles adult females have much more adult males.
