At your place there was a new pet – a hamster. This lovely and cheerful creature, over time a hamster can become your friend. But the trust of a little small animal needs to try to obtain gradually, keep from desire at once to seize him and to snuggle – he can be frightened and even to bite.
Instruction
1. Lodge a hamster in a cage and watch him several days. Find out in what time he is active (as a rule, hamsters like to be awake in the evening), what forage loves. Put a forage directly on a cage floor that he saw a hand and got used to it. Your hand will be associated at it with pleasant – a tasty forage.
2. If you see that he is not strongly frightened hands, try not to move away her, and to feed a hamster directly from hands. Offer it something tasty – cookies, an egg piece, cheese or oil. Put food directly on a palm – over time he will grow bolder and will directly climb to you on a hand.
3. When the hamster begins to sit safely on a palm, carefully iron him a finger of other hand on a back (you should not touch the head!). Talk more often to the favourite that he got used to your voice.
4. Gradually accustom a hamster to lifting. When he sits on a palm, carefully cover him with other hand and lift for several seconds. If the small animal is afraid, repeat only next day. When the hamster gets used, you will be able to transfer him from place to place.
5. Never take the sleeping hamster not to frighten him. You should not take him from a back – he has to see your hand. If the hamster trusts you and you are sure of him, do not hold him strong - let him run freely on a hand. If you have to transfer urgently a hamster from a cage to other place, it is better not to be too soft and hold it more strong, otherwise he can dodge and run away.
6. Try not to do sharp movements and you do not shout not to frighten him. Having been frightened, the hamster will hide in a corner of a cage and will talk to him is useless – it will never go to you to hands voluntarily.
7. Be not afraid of what the hamster can bite. It can happen, only if is frightened itself or if lived in bad conditions before and does not trust people. Anyway, the sting of a hamster is not more sick than a sting of a mosquito, and nothing terrible happens.
8. Having achieved trust of a hamster, do not forget about it. Play with it every day at least on several minutes, otherwise he will run wild again. Get it from a cage, give the chance to run about on a table or a sofa. Consider: hamsters very unexpectedly can escape, and catch them quite difficult.
