The name of breed is translated from German as "muzzle". The muzzle with a rectangular beard is characteristic of this breed.
Origin of breed schnauzer
Today there are three types of breed: huge, standard (average) and dwarfish schnauzers.
The huge schnauzer is a metis of a gurtovy Belgian dog and German mastiff though there is a hypothesis that it just is one of types of an average schnauzer. These dogs in the past exterminated rodents and protected from them carts with a harvest.
The ancestors of an average (standard) schnauzer are unknown because it is quite ancient breed. Standard schnauzers were used most often as fighters of rodents and as assistants on farms. The dwarfish schnauzer appeared at the end of the nineteenth century as result of selective selection.
In the USA the dwarfish kind of breed has the greatest popularity, in Europe the huge schnauzer most often meets.
Schnauzer - characteristic of breed
Huge schnauzers are proud animals. They tend to leadership, are hardy, vigorous and very cheerful. Dwarfish and average schnauzers are a little fussy and eccentrical, but these shortcomings are blocked by their all-consuming love of children.
Schnauzers are often used as sentry dogs. Also the schnauzer is used as a dog partner, a sports and guard dog.
Description of breed
The extended, strong molded head. A muzzle in the form of a wedge, shaggy. Rectangular back of a nose, black lips, oval shape of an eye. The stopped ears standing, not stopped – small, directly put. The square case, the curved neck which is smoothly passing into withers. Average depth thorax. A short back, the stomach is picked slightly up. Svodisty paws, cat's, small. The tail is put highly, at the level of the third vertebra is stopped. Indumentum includes a dense short underfur and a direct, long dense and rough hair. From below necks and on the head and also on inside of hips cut wool the machine. Longer and soft wool on a muzzle is cut off in the form of a bang, a beard and mustache, and on paws – in the form of columns. Eyebrows, mustache and a beard are softer, than indumentum on a trunk. Height in withers of a dwarfish schnauzer reaches 35 cm, an average schnauzer - 50 cm, a huge schnauzer – 70 cm. The weight of a karliky schnauzer is equal to 4-7 kg, an average schnauzer – 15 kg, a huge schnauzer - 30-40 kg.
Maintenance and leaving
Long walks are necessary for schnauzers, it is impossible to hold these dogs locked up. Every three months of a schnauzer needs to be cut at the hairdresser.
