People are inclined to consider cruel and impudent only those animals who bring a visible loss and live in close proximity to the person. It is accepted to be afraid of forest predators, stray dogs, birds some of which differ in especially cruel temper, for some reason drop out of a field of vision.
Among birds there are many predators. Eagles, golden eagles, sea eagles, falcons and signature stamps are considered as the most dangerous. They can turn for hours in search of the victim or pursue its long time, will not reach the production yet. However among family of birds the harpy is recognized as the most dangerous and frightening bird.
The flying wolf
The harpy comes from family of the hawks living in the jungle. Today this feathery is considered the biggest winged predator. On body weight these birds can reach 10-12 kg, and the male always weighs couple kilograms less female.
The wingspan of the harpy is 2 meters.
Though there are birds surpassing the harpy in body dimensions, but none of them can brag of such tenacity, power and sharpness of claws. It allows the feathery predator to fly up highly up with the victim and to carry by it in claws long distances. Claws of the harpy can grow on 8-13 cm in length. These birds have light gray plumage on the head and dark on a back and a neck. At the sight of danger and during hunting of the harpy raise the cop, inflating it in the form of a hood. At the same time they take very frightening form. Harpies nest on the top branches of dense deciduous crowns in tropical forests. Diameter of a nest reaches one and a half meters.
The harpy can rise by 900 — 2,000 meters up.
The feathery predator has so powerful paws that she crushes bones of the victim. All this together with the acute eyesight allowing a bird to track down the victim at distance up to 200 meters and also the speed of flight up to 80 km/h brings the harpy to the level of the most dangerous predators. Not for nothing she was nicknamed the flying wolf. The harpy not just catches production, it cruelly deals shortly with her, not seldom pulling out a trachea so that the victim slowly dies for several hours. Such behavior is justified, the harpy during this time manages to bring warm, still live food in a nest to baby birds.
Production of the harpy
This feathery is capable to kill the animal surpassing it in body weight. Generally these predators hunt monkeys and idlers therefore they got the second nickname — obezyanoyeda. Also harpies eat opossums, aguta, wood porcupines, anteaters and battleships, despite their rigid protective armor. Birds and hunting for dogs, pigs, snakes and lizards do not shun. Also harpies hunt the fellows. So, toucans and parrots macaws enter their diet. Harpies never miss the victim, not to leave it and the more so not to disappear. For this reason it is so terrible and dangerous. These birds even have no enemies, therefore, there are no them hunters also, and therefore they occupy the Supreme link in a food ecochain.
